As EU partners and NATO allies, Slovenia and the Czech Republic enjoy friendly relations and share similar positions on many European and international issues. They are also building on their cooperation within regional political frameworks, with Slovenia seeking to strengthen its collaboration with other Central European countries.

The two high officials noted with satisfaction the strong economic ties between their countries, agreeing that there are ample opportunities for further growth, particularly in energy, connectivity and logistics, notably with regard to the Port of Koper. They called for faster progress by candidate countries in the EU accession process, stressing that it must be based on achievements and that the implementation of agreed commitments is of key importance. The war in Ukraine was also discussed, with Slovenia’s ongoing political and humanitarian support for Ukraine being a central topic. They went on to examine potential cooperation in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, and addressed opportunities for strengthening transatlantic relations, relations with China and other current international issues.

State Secretary Tamara Weingerl Požar also met with Milena Hrdinková, State Secretary for European Affairs in the Office of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, to discuss major European Union issues, focusing on the multiannual financial framework, competitiveness and EU enlargement, on which the two countries share many similar views.
