Press release commemorating the victims of the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on 7 October 2023

Three years have passed since the terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas and other armed groups against Israel on 7 October 2023. Slovenia commemorates all those who were killed, injured or taken hostage that day, and stands in solidarity with their families and loved ones. The deaths of hostages, their suffering and the anguish of their families have left deep and lasting scars on Israeli society.

Slovenia once again strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and firmly rejects any justification or trivialisation of the 7 October attacks. We unequivocally condemn antisemitism, as well as all forms of hatred and violence against Jewish communities, wherever they occur.

On this day, we also remember all the civilians who have lost their lives or been affected by the conflict in the years that followed. The protection of the civilian population and respect for international humanitarian law must apply to everyone, without exception.

We emphasise Israel’s right to exist and to self-defence in accordance with the UN Charter. Israel’s legitimate security concerns must be addressed seriously through dialogue. Slovenia supports a mutually agreed two-state solution, with both states living in peace and security.
