Reception Celebrating Slovenia’s Statehood Day in Tirana

On 18 June 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Tirana hosted a diplomatic reception marking Slovenia’s Statehood Day and the 35th anniversary of its independence. The event brought together more than 200 representatives of Albania’s political, diplomatic, religious, business, cultural and civil society communities, as well as members of the international community.

On this occasion, the Embassy, in cooperation with Defence Attaché Colonel Ivan Turnšek, also marked Slovenian Armed Forces Day, celebrated on 15 May. An ensemble of the Slovenian Armed Forces Orchestra, led by Rudolf Strnad, provided the musical programme, contributing to the festive atmosphere.

In his address, Ambassador Jakob Štunf recalled the historic significance of Slovenia’s independence 35 years ago, when the Slovenian people, through unity, determination and a readiness to defend their freedom, achieved independence and became an equal member of the international community.

He also highlighted the friendship and alliance between Slovenia and Albania. Welcoming Albania’s progress towards European Union membership, he reaffirmed that Slovenia, as a strong advocate of EU enlargement, would continue to actively support Albania in successfully completing its accession negotiations.

The reception provided an opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation and to promote Slovenia in Albania.
