The Ministry and its strategic partner for emergency humanitarian response from 2024 to 2028, Caritas Slovenia, have signed contracts for the implementation of 13 projects in 2026, with a total value of approximately 2.4 million euros.

State Secretary Gabrič and Secretary General Tomažič discussed the humanitarian projects currently being launched by Caritas Slovenia in Ukraine, Gaza, Lebanon, Ethiopia, Madagascar and the Nuba Mountains in Sudan. The State Secretary expressed her appreciation for the long-standing partnership, dedication, professionalism and the swift and effective work carried out by Caritas Slovenia alongside local partners to uphold Slovenia’s commitment to solidarity, humanity and the promotion of human rights.

"As humanitarian crises are becoming increasingly protracted and complex, our response must be comprehensive and sustained. By increasing its funding, Slovenia is not only addressing immediate needs, but also strengthening the long-term resilience of communities. While providing basic aid such as food, water, medicine and shelter is important, it is also crucial to invest in child protection, access to education and psychosocial support. After all, children and young people are among those most affected by crises," emphasised Dr Gabrič, thanking Caritas Slovenia for their exceptional partnership based on trust and highly effective aid.

Director-General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid Edvin Skrt noted that the increasing number of complex crises and people in need worldwide demands greater solidarity, commitment and the mobilisation of additional funding sources, particularly from the private sector.

Last year alone, Slovenia's humanitarian aid reached more than 50,000 people in crisis-stricken areas through projects implemented by Caritas Slovenia. This aid provided many children with a safer environment, access to education and support in dealing with trauma. Slovenia is committed to strengthening humanitarian action, with a focus on supporting vulnerable groups. Through its partnerships, our country contributes responsibly and in a spirit of solidarity to mitigating the consequences of crises around the world.
