Planica 2026: A Week of Milestones and History Under the Ponce Mountains
The biggest highlight: for the first time, women ski jumpers will compete on the Letalnica bratov Gorišek ski flying hill. The top 15 athletes of the season, including Nika Prevc and Nika Vodan, will take on one of the most demanding ski flying hills in the world. This represents a significant step forward in the development of women’s ski jumping, which has seen remarkable progress in recent years.
At the same time, Planica will host another historic moment: Nika and Domen Prevc will receive the large Crystal Globes in front of their home crowd for their overall World Cup victories. At just 21 years of age, Nika Prevc is claiming her third consecutive title, while Domen Prevc is capping off one of the most successful seasons in the history of the sport.
There is also great anticipation surrounding potential new records. Following Domen Prevc’s world record jump last year (254.5 metres), organisers are hopeful that a new women’s world record could be set this year. World record holder Nika Prevc has already shown that limits in this sport can always be pushed further.
The competition programme, which has unfortunately been significantly affected by weather conditions this year, began on Thursday with qualifications. The highlight will come over the weekend, featuring the team event, the historic women’s competition, and Sunday’s grand finale with the best ski jumpers of the season.
