EU funding approved for the integration of migrant children into the education system

The Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has approved EU funding for the project “Integration of Migrant Children, Pupils and Students into the Slovenian Education System”. The project, with a total value of EUR 7 million, will receive EUR 2.8 million from the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

The project will upgrade implementation models and support mechanisms to ensure the quality integration of migrant children, pupils and students into the Slovenian education system. Activities will focus on establishing integration protocols, developing an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and strengthening the intercultural competences of educational professionals and school leaders. The project also strengthens professional learning communities, provides regional support, and promotes cooperation between educational institutions and local communities.

The project pursues the following objectives:

  • improving the quality of integration of migrant children into the education process;
  • equipping educational professionals with the necessary knowledge and competences to work in an intercultural environment;
  • establishing systemic solutions and protocols to enable faster and more effective integration;
  • strengthening cooperation between schools and local communities to provide comprehensive support for migrants.

The project is implemented under the Programme for the Implementation of European Cohesion Policy 2021–2027 in Slovenia and is co-financed by the ESF+.

The total value of the project in the programme area of the Western Slovenia Cohesion Region amounts to EUR 7 million. The European Union contributes EUR 2.8 million from the ESF+, while the national public contribution from the state budget amounts to EUR 4.2 million.
