Culture opens its doors for the 26th year in a row

For the 26th year in a row, cultural institutions across Slovenia commemorate the anniversary of the birth of the poet France Prešeren, who was born on 3 December 1800, by opening their doors wide and welcoming visitors to free cultural and artistic events – from exhibitions, guided tours, workshops and theatre performances to film screenings and discussions.

The Minister of Culture, Asta Vrečko, marked This Merry Day of Culture with a message saying that although we do not necessarily need to invest a lot of time in culture or artistic content, it gives back a lot. "Culture has the power to change us, to delight us, to awaken curiosity and empathy in us," wrote the Minister on the birthday of the poet France Prešeren.

Slovenians celebrate the birthday of the poet France Prešeren in the company of culture. The days of open doors of Slovenian culture, also known as This Merry Day of Culture, have been held on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture since 2000 when Slovenia celebrated the 200th anniversary of the birth of poet France Prešeren (1800-1849). The aim is to encourage people to visit cultural institutions.
