International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People

On International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Slovenia reaffirms its steadfast support for the Palestinian people, who have endured immeasurable suffering for decades through the loss of loved ones and homes, forced displacement, and the denial of fundamental rights, including the right to self-determination and independence.

In June 2024, Slovenia officially recognised Palestine, thereby confirming its commitment to international law and redressing historical injustices. Above all, this recognition is a clear pledge to the Palestinian people that Slovenia supports their right to their own state, their own territory and their own future.

Slovenia is demonstrating its solidarity with Palestine through humanitarian and development aid, and has committed itself to concrete action. Over the past two years, the country has allocated more than EUR 10 million in aid to the Palestinian population in Gaza, providing material assistance and implementing projects through selected partners, as well as making targeted contributions to international humanitarian organisations. Project activities focus on providing psychosocial support and rehabilitation for injured children, and ensuring that the affected population has access to basic necessities. In 2024, Slovenia allocated an additional EUR 1.2 million to support the Palestinian Authority, which is facing financial and institutional collapse.

Despite our best efforts, no amount of aid can swiftly end the pain and suffering endured by Palestinians, particularly over the past two years. Today serves as a reminder to the entire international community of how fragile peace is and how difficult it is to build. At the same time, it is a tribute to the resilience and dignity of the Palestinian people, and provides an opportunity to renew our solidarity with their aspirations for freedom, justice and peace.
