EU funding for the conservation of karst habitats
As part of this EU-funded conservation project, the Škocjan Caves Park will work to improve the conservation status of selected habitat types and species in the Natura 2000 areas Karst and Branica River Valley. The project will also aim to build long-term climate resilience of natural systems in karst landscapes. As such, the project will include, among other things, the implementation of targeted nature conservation interventions to enhance stability and adaptability of ecosystems such as meadows, forests, wetlands, and caves as well as measures to improve the living conditions and ambient environments of selected animal species. The project complements Slovenia’s efforts to promote nature protection and conservation of karst habitats for future generations.
The project Ensuring appropriate use of karst grasslands and rock faces for the conservation of selected habitat types and species in the Natura 2000 area Karst will be implemented as part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 under priority Green transformation for climate neutrality. It will pursue specific objective Enhancing protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution.
The €5,495,932.07 project will receive €2,198,372.83 from the European Regional Development Fund.
