State Secretary Neva Grašič addressed participants at the development conference Slovenia, Competitiveness and Investments, organised by the National Council. She explained that investment is no longer exclusively an economic matter – in today's world, it also carries geostrategic significance, as it not only brings capital injections, but also facilitates the transfer of knowledge, technology and integration into international value chains. "Slovenia has seen increasing interest in investing in biotechnology, advanced manufacturing, digital services and green technologies, which reflects our potential. However, we must create the conditions for this capital to really take root here and contribute to our strategic autonomy and security," explained the State Secretary.

The Ministry underlines that economic and scientific diplomacy are crucial for strengthening Slovenia's position on the international stage. Slovenian diplomatic missions have long since ceased to be purely political, now serving as outposts supporting Slovenian companies and scientific research institutions worldwide. We cooperate with European institutions, domestic ministries and economic actors to position Slovenia as a reliable and attractive destination for investment. At the same time, we are committed to actively managing economic security challenges, as set out in the European Economic Security Strategy. Its key pillars include enhanced competitiveness, protection against economic risks and partnering with like-minded countries, while maintaining a balance between openness and security.

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs will continue its efforts to:

  • Strengthen economic diplomacy and support Slovenian companies in their international expansion;
  • Coordinate policies with European and domestic partners to create a stable and predictable business environment;
  • Promote strategic investments that support Slovenia's technological and green transformation.

Today's conference marks an important step towards building a common vision and implementing concrete actions that will position Slovenia among Europe’s most competitive and innovative countries.
