Latin American and Caribbean Days 2025 – autumn cultural events open with a Peruvian film

As part of the Latin American and Caribbean Days (LAC Days) 2025, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs continues to hold a series of cultural events organised in cooperation with the embassies of Latin American and Caribbean countries and Slovenian cultural institutions.

The autumn cycle began on 2 September at the Slovenian Cinematheque with a Peruvian evening, featuring a screening of the film The Inheritance of Flora (La herencia de Flora). The film presented the life story of Flora Tristan, a fighter for women's and working-class rights and a pioneer of feminism in the early 19th century. A tasting of Peruvian specialities prepared by the Embassy of the Republic of Peru added value to the evening. The audience was addressed by Maria Eugenia Echeverria, Ambassador of Peru, Anita Stanković Pavlič, Head of the Department for North and Latin America and the Caribbean at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and Igor Prassel, Editor of the Slovenian Cinematheque's film programme. On this occasion, Ms Stanković Pavlič emphasised that gender equality, the protection of women's rights and their empowerment are among the key Slovenian foreign policy priorities.

A day later, on 3 September, the fifth film event of this year's LAC Days took place at the Slovenian Cinematheque. The audience was treated to a screening of the Chilean documentary entitled An Evergreen Abundance (Abundancia siempreverde), which depicts the rich heritage of the coexistence between people, gardens and forests, as well as the efforts of the younger generation to preserve them sustainably. The event was held in cooperation with the Embassy of Chile. In the introductory part, Ambassador Alex Wetzig addressed the audience with a video message, followed by the representatives of the Cinematheque and the Ministry, Igor Prassel and Irena Gril. In a discussion following the screening, Dr Nike Krajnc, Director of the Slovenian Forestry Institute, highlighted the importance of protecting forests in times of climate change and shared examples of best practices from Slovenia.
