Inauguration of Super 8 in Nova Gorica

Minister Jevšek attended the grand opening of Super 8 in Nova Gorica, a building located at the junction between the urban areas of Gorizia in Italy and Nova Gorica in Slovenia. With the revitalization of the area along the railway tracks, the two countries are developing what is to be the first European conurbation. ''I am sure this place will become a vibrant cultural venue and a fun and lively meeting place for people from all walks of life'', said Minister Jevšek in his opening remarks.

The project Super 8 is part of the European Capital of Culture 2025 and so-called operation of strategic importance, just like the projects Europe Square and EPIC. The three projects were co-financed by the European Union under Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027 and received a total of €4 million from the European Regional Development Fund. The funding was secured under Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI), a mechanism that supports sustainable urban development of urban municipalities.

Super 8 is a multi-purpose or a mixed-use venue bringing culture, creativity, and local gastronomy all under one roof. The Urban Municipality of Nova Gorica renovated and repurposed the existing facility, thus breathing new life into it. The opening ceremony was attended by the residents of both cities, local officials from Nova Gorica and Gorizia, Matej Arčon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Slovenians Abroad, Dr Jerneja Jug Jerše, Head of the Commission Representation in Slovenia, and mag. Mija Lorbek, Director of Public Institute GO!2025.
