€13 million in EU funding for a laboratory in the Savinjsko-Šaleška region
As part of the EU-funded project, the National Institute of Chemistry will establish suitable facilities for conducting research in the fields of biomass, biomass-derived products, and chemicals. Additionally, it will construct technical facilities for the optimal, safe management, handling, and (bio)refining of biomass, including laboratory and office space, as well as a lecture hall. The project also includes the purchase and installation of research equipment and supporting laboratory systems necessary for the smooth operation of the Biomass Biorefinery Laboratory, which will operate as a new internal organisational unit of the National Institute of Chemistry at the Stara vas site. The investment will contribute to the strengthening of human resources, as it is planned to employ at least ten experts. Cooperation will also be established with at least 20 companies that will be involved in the laboratory's research and development activities, contributing to the practical application of knowledge and innovation.
The project Laboratory for biomass bio-refining research in the Savinjsko-Šaleška region (Velenje) is part of Slovenia’s EU Cohesion Policy Programme 2021-2027. The project will be implemented under priority Restructuring of coal regions and will pursue specific objective Just Transition Fund.
The project, valued at €15,386,809.37, will receive approximately €13 million, specifically €12,999,993.08, from the Just Transition Fund.
