Prime Minister Golob: "In Geneva I saw the two faces of humanity"
After the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the contrast he experienced in a single day: "Today in Geneva, I saw the two faces of humanity. In CERN, I saw the best Europe and the world can achieve – reason, cooperation and science working together without borders. I met people who seek solutions for the common good and believe in a progress that excludes no one."
"Then I met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Hearing the accounts of the horrors happening in Gaza and elsewhere, I was faced with the darkest side of our world. I heard harrowing stories of systematic violations of human rights, the suffering of innocent people and of the responsibility of the international community, which often stays silent."
Prime Minister Golob reaffirmed Slovenia's commitment to respect for fundamental human rights. "Slovenia remains committed to multilateralism, human dignity and international law. CERN membership is proof that we are capable of contributing to the solution. However, if we really want to be on the right side of history, we must raise our voice even when it is hard. Humanity must not allow the progress on one side to obscure the indifference to suffering on the other."
Slovenia will continue its efforts, also as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to protect civilians in conflicts and to ensure compliance with international humanitarian law and accountability of those who violate it.
