They emphasised that regional cooperation is essential for successfully implementing reforms and the EU accession process.

The Western Balkan countries are facing significant challenges, including high unemployment rates and labour emigration. Urgent action is needed to improve the region's economic, institutional and competitive environment.

Speaking on behalf of Slovenia, State Secretary Gabrič expressed support for closing the development gap between the EU and the region. She also emphasised the need to create conditions for faster economic and social development, and to establish a common regional market in order to advance the region's EU accession process. She highlighted the importance of regional initiatives such as the SEECP, which encourage alliances and the sharing of experience between Member States and non-EU members. The combined efforts of all countries and institutions are vital in ensuring that the Western Balkans becomes an integral part of the EU, from which all citizens will benefit.

The ministers also endorsed the SEECP Joint Statement, in which participants advocate for strengthening democracy, the rule of law, the respect for human rights, promotion of sustainable development, economic growth and connectivity. They also expressed their support for enhancing regional security cooperation in light of geopolitical issues, including Russian aggression against Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East and the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

Bulgaria is set to take over the SEECP Chairmanship-in-Office on 1 July 2025. The SEECP is a regional forum for political dialogue and cooperation between South-East European countries. On the same day, the SEECP Summit will be held in Tirana, attended by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Nataša Pirc Musar.
