Minister Jevšek underlined that Europe's regions and cities are diverse but face many common challenges. Cohesion Policy is key to improving the quality of life everywhere, and we need a more territorially sensitive and better coordinated approach to make it truly effective. “To ensure that other EU and national policies are territorially sensitive, the territorial aspect should be taken into account already in the design and implementation of various programmes, instruments and funds. This should be part of the legislative drafting process at the EU and national levels,” underlined Minister Jevšek.

The Minister emphasised the importance of Cohesion Policy principles, including shared management and a place-based approach, as this is the way Cohesion Policy can effectively address the needs of people in various regions. “It is crucial to strengthen trust between EU institutions, Member States and regions, so that investment policies and mechanisms are based on the specific needs of citizens and the private sector across different regions and local communities,” also said Minister Jevšek.

The Minister emphasised that Slovenia supports a strong Cohesion Policy for the post-2027 period, backed by a sufficiently resourced EU budget.
