At the Meeting attended by Director-General for Political Affairs Mateja Norčič Štamcar, Slovenia called for swift action and support for the Palestinian Authority, emphasising that this is a shared responsibility of the international community. The Palestinian Authority, however, must ensure accountability to its own constituency in order to fulfil its mandate to establish a functioning Palestinian state, in line with the two-state solution, in an empowered and effective manner. Slovenia therefore supports the Arab reconstruction plan, but there is also much to be learned from past experience in the Western Balkans, particularly in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Meeting reached a consensus that reform of the Palestinian Authority is not a prerequisite for the recognition of Palestine. However, many countries agree that recognition is essential to achieving a two-state solution. Slovenia has already recognised Palestine and urged other countries to do the same.

Co-organised by the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the 5th Meeting of the Global Alliance took place in preparation for the June peace conference on a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution, to be held in New York and organised by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France. The Meeting aimed to assess the impact of peace efforts to date and to propose measures to accelerate progress towards a two-state solution, with a focus on strengthening the Palestinian Authority, the economy and society.
