Contaminated water in the Maximarket business building in Ljubljana

The Inspection for Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection (IVHVVR) was today informed that due to faecal contamination of drinking water in the internal water supply system of the Maximarket business building, contaminated foodstuffs might also have been placed on the market in the premisees at that location.

The IVHVVR calls on consumers who have purchased food prepared or served in establishments connected to the water supply system of the Mercator d.o.o. business building, Maxi Ljubljana (Trg republike 1, Ljubljana) not to consume these foods.  Warning relates to food bought there from 12 April 2025 onwards.

Packaged foods and foods that have been properly prepared and cooked by consumers before consumption do not pose a risk of infection.

Today food inspectors are conducting inspections in the food premisses withih mentioned building: the Maximarket food store, Chocolate atelier Dobnik d.o.o., Maxi Brunch Cafe (Nep projekt d.o.o.) and Moji štruklji Maxi (Peter Vogelnik s.p.), which, according to Mercator d.o.o., are connected to the water supply system of the Maximarket business building, and are ordering appropriate measures to protect consumers.
