'75 years of NATO and the power of Alliance' event at the Slovenian Embassy in Washington, co-hosted with The Wilson Center
On June 3rd, 2024, The Embassy of Slovenia in Washington and The Wilson Center co-hosted a round table "75 years of NATO and the power of Alliance: NATO's Evolution after the 2004 enlargement, Enlargement, Resilience, Peace".
The event was dedicated to the 75th anniversary of NATO and 20th anniversary of membership of Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Romania and Bulgaria. We were privileged to listen to the views of very interesting panelists from Europe and the USA. They offered their reflections and analysis of the consequences of the largest enlargement in NATO's history in 2004, open doors policy, contemporary security challenges and threats in Europe and the future of the Transatlantic Alliance.
The first panel was composed of Ambassador of Slovenia Iztok Mirošič, Ambassador of Slovakia Radovan Javorčik, Ambassador of Romania Andrei Muraru, Deputy Head of Mission of Lthuania Artűras Vazbys and Deputy Head of Mission of Ukraine, Denys Sienik. The panel's moderator was Ms. Robin Quinville, Director at the Global Europe Program, the Wilson Center.
The guest speakers at the second panel were Spencer Boyer, Partner and Practice Lead for National Security, Defense, and Aerospace at the ASG/DGA, Liam Wasley, Director of the Regional Political Military Affairs Office of the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Alton Buland, Principal Director for European and NATO Policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Ambassador Daniel Fried, Weiser Family Distinguished Fellow, Atlantic Council. The moderator was Ambassador Philip Reeker, Chair at the Global Europe Program, The Wilson Centre.
