International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia

This year, the theme of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is “No one left behind: Equality, freedom and justice for all”, which highlights the need for equality and respect for all people, regardless of their circumstances. As stated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights".

In many parts of the world, LGBTIQ people are still subjected to discrimination, violence, stigmatisation and even criminalisation. Homosexuality is considered a criminal offence in 62 countries. This leads to social and economic exclusion and personal hardship for people.

The elimination of all forms of discrimination is among Slovenia's foreign policy priorities in the field of human rights. Through its active engagement in international organisations, Slovenia is seeking to eliminate discrimination and violence and to ensure equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Slovenia advocates an inclusive society that values and respects diversity, human rights and fundamental freedoms.
