The Republic of Slovenia issued an open call for the 2024 Golden Bee Award

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food has issued an open call to citizens, legal persons or other organisations for the identification of candidates for the 2024 Golden Bee Award. The call is open till 15th March 2024 and applications from Slovenia and abroad are expected. The subject of the call are projects or achievements in promotion of bees and other pollinators in the past seven years (i.e. in the period 2016–2023).

The Golden Bee Award encourages and supports innovation and excellence of individuals or legal entities that have made a particularly important contribution to the protection and raising awareness of the importance of bees and other pollinators worldwide, while encouraging the efforts and outstanding achievements of individuals and legal persons. The recipient of the award will be selected by the Committee, and the winner will be given a sculpture by the President of the Republic of Slovenia, on 20 May, the World Bee Day.

With the Golden Bee Award, the Republic of Slovenia promotes World Bee Day and the transfer of knowledge, technology and the consolidation of Slovenia as a green, healthy, proactive and innovative country.

The 2024 Golden Bee Award will be granted for the fourth time. The first winner was prof. dr. Lucas Alejandro Garibaldi (Argentina) for achievements in in the field of promotion of bees an other pollinators, followed by Boštjan Noč (Slovenia) for the achievements in the field of conservation of bees and other pollinators and dr. Slobodan Davidović (Serbia) for the achievements in the field of research on bees and other pollinators.
