Prime Minister Robert Golob meets representatives of Slovenian minority in Italy

Today, as part of preparations for tomorrow’s working visit to Rome, Prime Minister Robert Golob met with the representatives of the Slovenian minority in Italy. The minority representatives initially thanked the Slovenian Government for its good cooperation.

The main topic of discussion was the situation of the Slovenian minority in Italy, particularly in terms of education, media and political representation in the Italian Parliament and the Regional Council of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Minority representatives called attention to issues concerning the reorganisation of the education system, which seeks to reduce the number of Slovenian headmasters in the region, the non-recognition of diplomas and the open matter of the autonomy of RAI headquarters in Friuli Venezia Giulia. They also urged for the improvement of the minority organisations’ financial situation.

One of the key messages communicated by Prime Minister Robert Golob at tomorrow’s talks with the Italian leadership will be the importance of the principle of positive reciprocity. It is essential for both governments to work together in ensuring the rights and development of both minorities – the Slovenian minority in Italy and the Italian minority in Slovenia – and to facilitate the exchange of good practices and efficient solutions.
