The state secretaries called for further deepening of the political dialogue and strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries. They agreed that the EEA Financial Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism are important instruments for strengthening bilateral relations. For the 2014–2021 period (the implementation ends in 2025), Slovenia is eligible for EUR 37.7 million from the financial mechanisms. The negotiations on the next EEA Financial Mechanism for the 2021–2027 period started in June 2022. During the talks it was underlined that Slovenia and Norway are like-minded countries, partners and allies in various international fora. They also share common values and have similar views on a number of issues and policies.

The two counterparts exchanged views on current foreign policy issues, focusing on developments in the Western Balkans and the situation in Ukraine. In this context, the discussion also touched on the recent European Political Community Summit in Granada, which provides a forum for an open exchange of views among European leaders. The two state secretaries also exchanged views on the current situation in Israel and Gaza and strongly condemned Hamas’s attacks on Israel.

State Secretary Štucin called for support for the countries of the Western Balkans on their path towards Europe, given that the enlargement of the EU with the countries of the region is in our strategic interest. He underlined the importance of a unified approach for the Western Balkans.

The two interlocutors also talked about other European issues, such as energy and migration, and State Secretary Štucin emphasised the importance of a fully functioning Schengen area.

During the visit, State Secretary Štucin also met with the Head of the EU Delegation to Norway, Nicolas de La Grandville, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Oslo, Knut M. Ore.
