Minister Poklukar proposes to his Croatian counterpart Božinović to strengthen surveillance in the border area

In a telephone conversation, Minister of the Interior Boštjan Poklukar once again drew the attention of his Croatian counterpart Dr Davor Božinović to the high number of illegal crossings of the Slovenian-Croatian border, in particular in the area of the municipality of Brežice.

Slovenia’s police have further stepped up surveillance in this area, with additional police patrols, a helicopter and other technical means. On this occasion, Minister Poklukar suggested that such surveillance be reinforced on the Croatian side as well. He also offered the assistance of the Slovenian police in protecting the external borders of the European Union.

The two ministers agreed that, in addition to enhanced surveillance, it is also important to continue close police cooperation in the fight against smuggling of migrants along the Western Balkan route. They also shared the view that the European Union must do more to prevent irregular migration in countries of origin and strengthen cooperation with partner countries.

The Slovenian and Croatian interior ministers are in regular contact, and the police forces of both countries cooperate closely and regularly.
