Dear citizens, dear residents of the Republic of Slovenia,

Today is an important holiday, even if we don’t get the day off from work.

It’s a day on which we proudly remember a reformer whose work, especially his printed books, made an invaluable contribution to the development of the Slovenian language and national consciousness. Primož Trubar understood the importance of spreading the literacy skills among ordinary people – in their mother tongue.

Today, more than half a millennium after his birth, linguistic challenges may seem less important, but that is far from the case: the boom of the digital world brings about fresh challenges, including, in particular, how to effectively combat hate speech.

May today be a day to remember Primož Trubar, and perhaps a day to think about how to brighten up someone's moment with a kind word.

I wish everyone a pleasant national holiday – Primož Trubar Day.
