State Secretary Žbogar in Botswana on strengthening Slovenia's partnerships in the international community

State Secretary Samuel Žbogar visited Gaborone to meet with Botswana’s Foreign Minister Dr Lemogang Kwape. The visit was aimed at strengthening Slovenia's partnerships in the international community and exchanging views on challenges in the region and in the international community.

State Secretary Žbogar and Minister Kwape discussed the options to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, including in digitalisation, agriculture and the health sector. Minister Kwape expressed Botswana's interest in partnership with pharmaceutical manufacturers. They paid particular attention to the situation in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and in the international community, particularly in relation to food security and climate change. State Secretary Žbogar also updated Minister Kwape on the Africa Day international conference to be held in Slovenia from 20 to 21 April 2023 and dedicated to climate security.

During his visit, State Secretary Žbogar visited the SADC headquarters, where he met with Deputy Executive Secretary Angele Makombo N'tumba. They discussed security challenges and the EU's role in supporting SADC projects. Deputy Executive Secretary N'tumba identified Slovenia as a country with extensive knowledge in water management and expressed an interest in collaborating with Slovenian experts in this field. SADC is a regional organisation of Southern African countries striving for economic development and growth, peace and security and poverty eradication through joint programmes in various fields and by regional integration.
