State Secretary Marko Štucin hosts Deputy Foreign Minister of North Macedonia

State Secretary Marko Štucin met with the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Fatmire Isaki. They were pleased to note the intensive political dialogue and the very good relations between the two countries.

The two officials agreed that cooperation between their two countries at all levels is very good and were satisfied with the regular and intensive political dialogue between Slovenia and North Macedonia. They welcomed the forthcoming visit by the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Mr Dimitar Kovachevski, to Slovenia, on 3 April 2023.

Their discussion also focused on North Macedonia’s progress as it moves closer to Europe and on the EU enlargement process, with State Secretary Štucin giving assurances that "Slovenia will continue to support North Macedonia on its European path". The cooperation between the two countries is largely linked to the exchange of experience and the transfer of Slovenian knowledge in the context of North Macedonia's alignment with European standards.

Deputy Foreign Minister of North Macedonia Isaki presented the screening of the Macedonian legislation and its comparison with the EU acquis, as well as the challenges that North Macedonia is expected to face as it advances on its path towards the EU this year.

The two officials went on to exchange views on the current situation in the region, with State Secretary Štucin praising North Macedonia’s hosting of a meeting between Serbia’s President Vučić and Kosovo Prime Minister Kurti on 18 March as part of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue. They agreed on the need to provide a clear European perspective for the countries in the region.
