State Secretary Štucin holds bilateral talks in Stockholm

State Secretary Marko Štucin held bilateral consultations in Stockholm with Swedish Minister for EU Affairs Jessika Roswall. They discussed the priorities of the Swedish EU Council Presidency, current European and international topics and EU enlargement to the Western Balkans.

State Secretary Štucin and Minister Roswall focused on the Swedish Presidency in the first half of 2023 and discussed the substantive priorities of the Swedish Presidency, which include safety assurance, the green transition, boosting EU competitiveness, and the rule of law. They agreed on the importance of respecting the rule of law and maintaining the dialogue between the EU member states.

As to current international topics, they expressed support for Ukraine and underlined the need to achieve a fair peace. They went on to mention the EU's work to mitigate the energy crisis and address the situation in the Western Balkans. State Secretary Štucin also called for a credible continuation of the enlargement process and an agreement on granting Bosnia and Herzegovina candidate status by the end of 2022.

They discussed migration and Schengen enlargement with the State Secretary stressing the importance of a fully functioning Schengen area.
