Strong Ties Between Slovenia and Japan Confirmed at the Meeting with H.E. Mr Ichiro Aisawa, Chairman of Japan-Slovenia Parliamentary Friendship Association

The meeting took place in the context of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Slovenia and Japan, which the two countries are celebrating this year.

The two sides reaffirmed close cooperation between both countries and discussed the upcoming high-level visits by the Republic of Slovenia to Japan. They also discussed Russia's aggression against Ukraine, in which context the Chargé d'affaires, Mr Vodnik, stressed the importance of Japan's leadership role in the region, and expressed concern about the increasing tensions in the region. She stressed the importance of respect for international law and the rule of law. She informed of the humanitarian and other assistance Slovenia is providing to Ukraine.

The two sides agreed regarding the positive impact of Japanese investments in Slovenia, which create new jobs and builds on the skills and potential of the Slovenian workforce. Ms Vodnik, presented the successful NEDO project on smart electricity grids, which is taking place in Slovenia and in which Hitachi and Eles are working together. The project won the ISGAN international award for the best example of smart grids in 2020. The Slovenian side would like to see the cooperation between Slovenia and Japan in the framework of NEDO to continue.
