She was particularly pleased that Slovenia is slowly returning to the fold of the core countries of the European Union, which was one of her goals as Minister. "Although Slovenia is a small country, it can be a successful foreign policy actor and strengthen its reputation at home and abroad with good initiatives and a strengthened, well-qualified diplomatic corps," she said at the meeting with Ministry staff.

The priorities she had already outlined during her presentation 100 days ago included the organisational modernisation and reinvigoration of the Ministry and its adaptation to the current national and global context. She explained that the first steps in the right direction had already been taken by the setting up of the Global Challenges Department and by appointing special envoys to focus on specific areas in a targeted and planned manner. She also highlighted the activation of economic diplomacy, which has again been made one of the main priorities of the Ministry’s work, as Slovenian companies need assistance in foreign markets more than ever before, especially in those that hold future potential.

She also mentioned the support for the Slovenian candidature for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council – the first steps have been taken and these will intensify week by week. We hope for broad and sufficient support.

She concluded by mentioning that a great deal of hard work still needs to be accomplished by the Ministry and the diplomatic and consular missions to achieve all the goals set. Minister Fajon then thanked the staff of the Ministry for their dedicated work and support in achieving the set objectives: "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is our common house. The achievements I am presenting to the public belong to us all. We are here to uphold the reputation of our country, to lead by example and to create the conditions for the prosperity and security of Slovenia and its citizens," concluded Minister Fajon.
