Reception on the Occasion of the National Day of the Republic of Slovenia and the 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations Between the Republic of Slovenia and Japan, 22 June 2022

On 22 June 2022, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Tokyo organised a reception for the diplomatic community, Slovenian citizens and representatives of Japanese institutions on the occasion of the Slovenian National Day and the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Slovenia and Japan. Around 90 people attended the event.

In her welcoming address, Ambassador Dr Polak Petrič stressed that political relations between the two countries are at an exceptionally high level, which is also reflected in the numerous visits by high-level representatives and cooperation at the highest level over the past few years. The two countries share views and interests on important global issues such as the fight against climate change, the defence of human rights, multilateralism, the implementation of activities in the Western Balkans and the Indo-Pacific region. The Ambassador also congratulated all Slovenians for their contribution to the friendship between the two countries.

This was followed by an address by Mr Hirofumi Takinami, Member of the Upper House of the Japanese Parliament and member of the Japan-Slovenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, representing Fukui Prefecture, and Mr Hideki Uyama, Director General for Europe at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Both congratulated Slovenia on its National Day.

At the end of the event, the Deputy Minister for Digital Policy, Mr Koichi Akaishi, toasted Ambassador Dr Polak Petrič, thanked her for her work and for deepening relations between the two countries, and wished her good luck for the future.

The programme was enlivened by a magic performance entitled "30th Anniversary Special Magic" by Youri Terashima, and the Slovenian and Japanese national anthems were performed by the famous Japanese pianist Ms. Harumi Hanafusa.
