Prime Minister Robert Golob has telephone conversation with his Ukrainian counterpart

Today, Prime Minister Robert Golob had a telephone conversation with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

They discussed the situation in Ukraine and the upcoming European Council meeting, where Ukraine will be one of the main topics. The Ukrainian Prime Minister thanked Slovenia for its attitude towards Ukrainian refugees and asked for assistance in demining Ukraine’s territory.

The Slovenian Prime Minister expressed Slovenia’s strong support for Ukraine and its sovereignty and for peace efforts. He pledged Slovenia’s assistance in demining and firmly condemned the Russian aggression, which is contrary to the provisions of the United Nations Charter. Slovenia fully respects the fundamental principles of international relations and thus rejects any form of violence. The unity of the EU is crucial.

Prime Minister Golob also expressed the support of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for Ukraine’s efforts to be granted candidate status for EU membership, alongside our already known strong support for membership for the countries of the Western Balkans.
