The 28th edition of the Tour of Slovenia, the biggest cycling race in the country, starts today in Nova Gorica. The race’s most important name will be Slovenian ace Tadej Pogačar, who will test his form with the UAE Team Emirates ahead of the Tour of France and aim for a second consecutive victory on home soil.

The Tour of Slovenia features five stages, 791 kilometres and 11 categorised climbs covering 9150 metres of ascent. The royal stage will take place on Saturday. The overall winner will be crowned the day after in Novo mesto.

Two-time consecutive Tour winner Tadej Pogačar, who will wear the number 1, will of course be the main favourite for a home victory. The 23-year-old already won the Tour of Slovenia last year, and this year's home race will serve mainly as a final preparation before the season's climax – the 109th Tour de France. He will be supported by UAE Team Emirates' Jan Polanc, among others, as well as former winner of the Tour of Slovenia Rafal Majka, who will help him win a second consecutive victory.

The Slovenian Tourist Board, in partnership with the Adria Mobil Cycling Club, is again this year providing coverage of the race under the distinctive slogan "Fight for Green" on the global Eurosport television network and, by leasing advertising space, is presenting the beauty of Slovenia and its tourist destinations through Tadej Pogačar’s eyes in 218 television commercials. It will also inspire cycling enthusiasts to visit Slovenia in 3 million online ad impressions on the Eurosport website. Other communications on social media and Eurosport’s website will also present Slovenia as a green, boutique destination for great active experiences.
