The best invitation to Planica

The excellent performance of Slovenian ski jumpers at Vikersund and Oberstdorf is without any doubt the best advertisement for the finals of the 43rd Nordic Combined World Cup event.

Starting from Wednesday, when the official test of the Gorišek brothers' ski flying hill is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m., the world’s best ski jumpers will compete in the finals at Planica and again after two years spectators will be able to watch a ski flight spectacle in the valley under the Ponce mountains.

Spectators are returning to the valley after two years this year. We are happy to see Planica again the way it used to be. The spectators, the backdrop and Planica’s soul make this place the way it is: unforgettable and unique," said the Secretary-General of the Planica Organising Committee, Tomaž Šušteršič.

Planica is the cradle of ski flying and the site of the first jumps over 100 and 200 metres. In 1969, the year the Gorišek brothers’ hill was built, Planica saw the world record broken on four occasions. After 1985, world records were set only in Planica until 2011, when Janez Gorišek and his son Sebastjan participated in renovating the hill in Vikersund, making it the world’s best ski jumping venue. Is there that Peter Prevc smashed the magical 250-meter mark in 2015.

Planica again aims to be the place of the world’s longest ski jump record. The finals will include 13 competitors from Slovenia. The event organisers expect around 30,000 spectators on Saturday, the main competition day.
