Prime Minister Janez Janša expresses his condolences on the death of European Parliament President David Sassoli

The media have reported that President of the European Parliament David Sassoli died last night in a hospital in Aviano at the age of 65.

A former journalist, he was elected to the European Parliament for the first time in 2009 and became its president in 2019. He was a member of the Party of European Socialists (S&D). This morning, European flags in front of the European Parliament were flown at half-mast as a tribute to its deceased president.

On the death of the President of the European Parliament, Prime Minister of Slovenia Janez Janša wrote on Twitter that “we are saddened by the news of the death of David Sassoli”.

“In these difficult times, our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends,” added the Slovenian Prime Minister.
