  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar attended the 28th Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Stockholm, at which the foreign ministers discussed conflicts and current crises in the region, stressing the importance of an effective OSCE approach in implementing the concept of comprehensive security.

At the plenary meeting attended by the ministers of 57 countries, Minister Logar advocated rebuilding mutual trust and strengthening the political will of the OSCE participating States. The number of conflicts in the region is increasing, while the threshold for the use of violence is decreasing. He called for respect of the fundamental principles and commitments of the organisation as well as the non-use of military force. He also underlined the importance of preventive security action in trans-national organised crime, cybersecurity and improving border management, and in this context referred to the unacceptable developments at the European Union’s external border with Belarus. Slovenia condemns the promotion of irregular migration and regrets the suffering of migrants, particularly the most vulnerable groups.

Minister Logar went on to point out the significant security risk climate change poses at the global level and added that individual security issues should be addressed in a comprehensive and inclusive manner.

Minister Logar met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino Luca Beccari on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting. The counterparts discussed the possibilities for strengthening bilateral cooperation, the negotiations over the association agreement between San Marino and the EU, and the Adriatic-Ionian macro region. Minister Logar also held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Ruslan Kazakbayev, with whom he discussed enhanced economic cooperation, cooperation between the EU and Central Asia, and the situation in the region, especially in relation to the developments in Afghanistan.

On the final day of the ministerial meeting on 3 December 2021, the ministerial decisions and declarations will be formally confirmed, among others on the new Chairmanship of the organisation, which will be taken over by Finland, and on strengthening cooperation to address the challenges posed by climate change.
