The discussion was led by Political Director of EEAS Enrique Mora, focusing on the EU’s approach to the issue of government “legitimacy”, EU-US cooperation in foreign policy, the EU Global Human Rights Sanctions Regime, and the situation in the Western Balkans. 

The political directors exchanged views on China, the Indo-Pacific region, Russian Federation and the situation in the Western Balkans with the US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland via a video conference. They underlined the importance of cooperation between the EU and the US in a number of areas, with particular emphasis placed on the need for a coordinated approach and uniform messages in the Western Balkans region, which demands a clear Euro-Atlantic perspective.
