State Secretary Dr Raščan at the EU High-Level Forum for the protection of endangered Afghans
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The aim of the event was to ensure a coherent EU approach in providing support and protection to those most in need, to seek synergies between different initiatives and, at the same time, to show EU solidarity with the Afghan people. Commissioner Johansson stressed the importance of protection and safe and legal pathways for the most deprived populations, including permanent resettlement and humanitarian admission. To this end, the Commission announced the establishment of a multiannual support scheme for the protection of deprived Afghans. High Representative Borrell stressed, inter alia, the urgency of efforts to improve the economic situation. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, called for an increase in rapid, flexible and unconditional humanitarian aid.
State Secretary Raščan underlined the importance of further humanitarian assistance and coordination of joint EU efforts in ensuring the protection of vulnerable groups of Afghans. He pointed out that this year, Slovenia would allocate EUR 300,000 intended to alleviate the most urgent humanitarian needs in the country and continue to support the Kabul clinic, which, among other things, provides health services for women. As a sign of solidarity, Slovenia welcomed 25 Afghan citizens who had worked with the Slovenian Armed Forces or the EU delegation in the past.
