Minister Logar on the importance of advancing partnerships and multilateralism at the OECD meeting

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Minister Anže Logar attended the regular annual meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), which adopted a new strategy paper with a vision of the OECD’s work over the next ten years and an external OECD action strategy.

On the opening day of the meeting in Paris, Minister Anže Logar stressed the importance of further developing partnerships and multilateralism: “The COVID-19 pandemic has identified the need for genuine, reliable and strong partnerships. International cooperation and partnership building will help us tackle the challenges of the future.” He added that the COVID-19 pandemic has proven that more investment should be made in the public system, science, research, education and health to help us cope with future crises. He also touched upon the huge amount of disinformation which Slovenia has experienced over the past year. “We will have to respond better to disinformation. Fake news is coming from inside and outside, undermining the unity of society and strong democracy," said Minister Logar.

The strategy paper with its vision for action focuses on the green future, climate change, COP26, gender equality and the protection of workers’ rights, and condemnation of forced and child labour. The OECD’s future strategy plans to prioritise climate resilience and energy transition. The OECD will also continue to strengthen the global tax system, supporting open trade and transparency.

Minister Logar met with Israeli Minister of Environmental Protection Tamar Zandberg on the margins of the meeting. They discussed climate change and the upcoming COP26, exchanging views on the impact of energy price hikes on national climate and energy policies
