Minister Logar at the opening of UNGA76 General Debate in New York

Foreign Minister Anže Logar today attended the opening of the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and the reception for the Slovenian community in New York. He also held a series of bilateral meetings.

Yesterday, 21 September 2021, marked the beginning of the general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly. The opening was attended by President Borut Pahor and Foreign Minister Anže Logar. At the opening of the general debate, UN Secretary-General António Guterres presented his report on the organisation’s work for 2021. It was followed by speeches by high-level representatives, which are scheduled to continue until Monday 27 September 2021.

On the margins of the meeting, Minister Logar also held bilateral talks with the Foreign Ministers of Nicaragua, Switzerland, Indonesia and Serbia.

Minister Logar and Foreign Minister of Nicaragua Denis Ronaldo Moncada Colindres discussed the current global challenges related to climate change and the COVID-19 epidemic. Minister Logar called on Nicaragua to respect democratic values and expressed his hope for the positive development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Minister Logar and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis touched upon the excellent bilateral relations between the two countries, which are reflected in the economic, scientific and multilateral fields. The Ministers also spoke about EU-Switzerland relations.

Minister Logar also held talks with the Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Retno L. P. Marsudi, focusing on the situation in the Indo-Pacific region, opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, and current global challenges regarding water and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Logar and Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković discussed, among other things, active economic cooperation between the two countries, succession issues and future steps in Serbia’s EU accession process.

At the end of the day, the Minister also attended a reception for the Slovenian community in New York on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence.
