State Secretary Dr Raščan went on to speak about Slovenia’s assistance to partner countries in their fight against the pandemic. In addition to bilateral donations of vaccine, medicines and protective equipment, Slovenia has contributed half a million euros to the COVAX AMC mechanism for 2021 and 2022. As the needs remain high, Slovenia has responded by donating 150,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Cabo Verde, which were delivered on 3 September 2021. State Secretary Dr Raščan thanked Portuguese Secretary of State André for his help in the logistical planning of the donation.

With this gesture, Slovenia continues its development cooperation efforts in Cabo Verde that previously focused on the implementation of telemedicine and e-health projects. This is the largest project of Slovenian development cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa carried out by ITF Enhancing Human Security.

During the talks, the high officials exchanged views on some other current topics, including the forthcoming EU-African Union ministerial meeting, which will take place on 26 October 2021, and cooperation in culture and human rights. Towards the end of the meeting, State Secretary Dr Raščan presented the priorities of the Slovenian Presidency and called for continued fruitful cooperation.
