Acting Director-General holds talks on the Presidency Priorities in development cooperation with French Director-General

Acting Director-General Igor Jukič held consultations with the French Director-General for Global Affairs, Culture, Education and International Development, Michel Miraillet, via video conference.

During the consultations, Acting Director-General Jukič presented the main priorities of the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union regarding development cooperation. The Presidency programme in the field of development cooperation rests on two pillars placed in the broader context of the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and the strengthening of resilience, namely green transition and human development. A comprehensive approach to water will be a thematic priority linking the two pillars.

The two high officials also touched on the new financing instrument NDICI-Global Europe, which entered into force in mid-June, and the Post-Cotonou agreement, which is expected to be signed at the beginning of next year.

Director-General Miraillet briefed his Slovenian counterpart on the preparations for the French Presidency of the Council of the EU, which will follow the Slovenian Presidency in the first half of 2022. The two high officials committed themselves to close cooperation to achieve the smoothest possible transition between the two presidencies, and to the continued management of key dossiers in the field of development policy.
