Consultations at the level of Director-General for EU Affairs with Latvia

In view of the upcoming Slovenian EU Council Presidency, Director-General for European Union Affairs Barbara Sušnik held talks with Mārtiņš Klīve, the Director of the European Union Coordination and Policies Department of the Latvian Foreign Ministry, via videoconference.

Director-General Sušnik outlined Slovenia’s priorities for the Presidency, which is less than two weeks away now, pointing to the need to strengthen EU resilience to various crises, facilitate economic recovery and enhance the Union’s strategic autonomy. As to other priorities, she emphasised the Conference on the Future of Europe, the promotion of the European way of life and the rule of law, and the European Union as a reliable global partner. 

The officials also touched on the positive and friendly bilateral relations between Slovenia and Latvia, noting that the two countries share similar views on numerous European and global issues, and adding that their economic cooperation has been further strengthened despite the pandemic that began in 2020, which is a solid foundation for further growth. 

Mārtiņš Klīve voiced support for the priorities of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency, assuring that Latvia will continue efforts to enhance dialogue between the two countries.
