The State Secretaries began their talks by reaffirming the positive and close relations between their two countries, with State Secretary Dovžan outlining the priorities of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency in the second half of 2021 for his counterpart. The two officials noted that Slovenia and Lithuania share similar views on strengthening the Union’s resilience to various crises, the recovery that should be directed towards a digital and green transition, and the important role of the national recovery plans. They also touched on the ongoing Conference on the Future of Europe, adding that the general population should participate and get involved in the discussion.

The State Secretaries also emphasised the importance of further strengthening transatlantic relations and conducting a credible EU policy towards the neighbourhood, in terms of both the Eastern Partnership and the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries.

State Secretary Pranckevičius wished Slovenia a successful EU Council Presidency and gave assurances of Lithuania’s full support.
