State Secretary Dovžan holds talks with Polish Minister for European Affairs

State Secretary Gašper Dovžan took part in an online meeting with Polish Minister for European Affairs Konrad Szymański. The State Secretary briefed his counterpart on the priorities of Slovenia's EU Council Presidency, which will take place in the second half of this year. He highlighted the importance of the Union's quick economic recovery, resilience to future crises and ensuring strategic autonomy. He also mentioned the Conference on the Future of Europe, where Slovenia will play an important role as the EU presiding country.

State Secretary Dovžan mentioned that Slovenia as a presiding country would pay particular attention to preserving the European way of life and the rule of law, and to ensuring equal criteria for all.

State Secretary Dovžan and Minister Szymański were in full agreement that the EU must be a credible partner in international relations, capable of ensuring security and stability in its neighbourhood. They emphasised the importance of the European perspective for the Western Balkans, which must be the Union's strategic decision. They agreed that the EU must react decisively to the latest developments in Belarus.

Minister Szymański said that Poland had high expectations of Slovenia's Presidency and wished it every success. He expressed Poland's full support and readiness to cooperate.
