State Secretary Dovžan holds talks with Spanish State Secretary

State Secretary Gašper Dovžan met with State Secretary for the European Union at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain Juan González-Barba Pera to discuss the incoming Slovenian EU Council Presidency and current European topics.

In a spirit of friendly and constructive cooperation, State Secretaries Dovžan and González-Barba Pera underlined joint efforts to improve the Union’s resilience and capacity in dealing with various types of crisis. They also drew attention to the recovery of the European economy, taking account of green transition and digital transformation, the rule of law and preserving the European way of life. They advocated an inclusive and open debate on the future of Europe. 

The State Secretaries also discussed cooperation in the Mediterranean, the Southern Neighbourhood, the EU perspective of the Western Balkan countries and the New Pact on Migration and Asylum. State Secretary González-Barba Pera guaranteed Spain’s full support for Slovenia's EU Council Presidency.

As part of the programme, the two State Secretaries took part in the second event on the future of Europe organised by the Bled Strategic Forum for young people from Slovenia and Spain. The discussion centred on the future of Europe and the issues that young people consider the most pressing.
