Talks between State Secretary Gašper Dovžan and Austrian Secretary General Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal

State Secretary Gašper Dovžan today held a videoconference with Secretary General at the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Peter Launsky-Tieffenthal, focusing on the priorities of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency in the second half of 2021.

Referring to the priorities, State Secretary Dovžan stressed the importance of the EU enhancing its resilience and recovery as well as achieving strategic autonomy. In this context, Slovenia will make every effort to start drawing on funds from the recovery instrument as soon as possible. He went on to highlight the role of an inclusive and ambitious debate in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe, adding that Slovenia would like to actively participate in organising it.

The officials emphasised the importance of the rule of law and European values. The Austrian side expressed satisfaction with Slovenia keeping EU enlargement with the Western Balkans high on the foreign policy agenda.

They concluded the talks by confirming their readiness for close cooperation in the second half of 2021.
