State Secretary Dovžan holds consultations with Foreign Minister of Cyprus

State Secretary Gašper Dovžan held a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, via videoconference today. The meeting was convened at Slovenia’s initiative and focused on the presentation of the priorities of the Slovenian EU Council Presidency.

At this crucial moment for the EU, State Secretary Dovžan and Minister Christodoulides are united in advocating constructive and close cooperation and strengthening the bloc's resilience to various forms of crises, its recovery and strategic autonomy. They underlined the importance of an inclusive and ambitious debate in the context of the future of Europe, the rule of law and the preservation of the European way of life and European values.

Slovenia and Cyprus support the EU perspective of the Western Balkans, as well as dialogue and constructive cooperation with the countries in the wider neighbourhood. The counterparts paid particular attention to the external and internal dimension of migration, including in relation to developments in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Minister Christodoulides wished Slovenia every success as the next holder of the EU Presidency and gave assurances of Cyprus’ full support and cooperation.
