Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar today met with President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, Secretary-General Klaus Welle, and Leader of the European People’s Party in the European Parliament Manfred Weber.

The purpose of the meetings was to discuss how Minister Logar will liaise with the European Parliament during the Slovenian EU Council Presidency as he will take on the tasks of the High Representative and represent the Council of the EU in relations with the European Parliament, which means he will also attend all plenary sessions and present the political priorities of the Presidency.

During the talks, Minister Logar outlined the Presidency priorities, with a special focus on strengthening the EU’s resilience in healthcare and cybersecurity, the Union’s economic rehabilitation with an emphasis on digital and green transition, and a Union based on the rule of law. He went on to share the foreign affairs priorities, focusing on enhancing the relations with the transatlantic partners and the Western Balkans.

The Conference on the Future of Europe, which was formally launched on 9 May, was another important topic of the discussions. The consultation period is to run for one year, with most of the discussions taking place during the Slovenian EU Council Presidency.
