Proposal for cooperation in formulating responses to fundamental development challenges in the 2021–2022 period

  • Former Prime Minister Janez Janša (2020 - 2022)
The Office of Prime Minister Janez Janša has communicated to all leaders of parliamentary parties (List of Marjan Šarec, Social Democrats, Party of Modern Centre, The Left, New Slovenia – Christian Democrats, Party of Alenka Bratušek, Democratic Party of Pensioners of Slovenia, Slovenian National Party) and to the deputies of the national communities a proposal for an agreement between all political parties and the representatives of the national communities in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia for cooperation in formulating responses to the fundamental development challenges in the 2021–2022 period.

The political parties and representatives of national communities in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia would enter into this agreement taking account of the following:

  • that the Republic of Slovenia is currently facing one of its most demanding challenges, i.e. formulating an exit strategy from the epidemic, for which it has significant EU funds at its disposal;
  • that the Republic of Slovenia is looking towards the important period of its Presidency of the Council of the EU, which will coincide with the Conference on the Future of Europe;
  • that it is necessary to carry out certain systemic reforms that are essential to maintaining and strengthening competitiveness as a prerequisite for greater prosperity of the Republic of Slovenia and are in the common interest of all Slovenian citizens and parliamentary parties.

By signing the agreement, the political parties and representatives of national communities in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia would express their will and intention to co-define the aforementioned challenges and objectives, regardless of whether individual political parties are members of the coalition or are in the opposition. To this end, the political parties and representatives of national communities in the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia would jointly adopt rules on influence and liability.

The complete proposal that was sent to the leaders of parliamentary parties and the deputies of the national communities can be found in the attachment.
